About Our Rice Wine
What is Chinese rice wine?
Fermented rice wine made from glutinous rice — used for everyday Chinese cooking and confinement. Ye Traditions makes three varieties: Red (Hong Zao Jiu), Yellow, and Ginger Wine, all handcrafted in Singapore with no preservatives.
What's the difference between Red, Yellow, and Ginger Wine?
Red is rich and umami-forward — ideal for braised dishes and pig trotter vinegar. Yellow is lighter and golden — great for soups and steamed fish. Ginger Wine is warming and spicy — key for confinement stir-fries.
Can I use rice wine for everyday cooking, not just confinement?
Absolutely — rice wine is a staple in everyday Chinese cooking, adding depth to marinades, stir-fries, soups and braises. Many customers buy it purely as a cooking ingredient.
Does rice wine contain alcohol?
Yes, approximately 7% ABV. The alcohol largely cooks off during cooking.
Is your rice wine halal?
Not halal-certified as it contains alcohol.
What makes Ye Traditions different from supermarket brands?
Handcrafted in small batches using traditional methods, with no preservatives or additives. The result is richer, more complex flavour you can taste in the dish.
Confinement
Which wine is best for pig trotter vinegar?
Red Rice Wine (Hong Zao Jiu) — its deep flavour and red yeast character are the traditional pairing with black vinegar and ginger.
Which rice wine is best for confinement cooking overall?
Red Wine for braised dishes and pig trotter vinegar; Ginger Wine for warming soups and stir-fries. Our Confinement bundles have both in the right quantities for a full 28 days.
Is free delivery available for confinement orders?
Yes — free island-wide delivery on orders above $120, including all confinement bundles.
