Dang gui (当归), sometimes called female ginseng, is one of the most treasured herbs in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for women's wellness. Brewed into rice wine, it becomes a warming tonic that generations of Singapore families have turned to for nourishment, especially after childbirth and during the monthly cycle.
What is dang gui?
Dang gui is the root of Angelica sinensis, long used in TCM to nourish and move the blood. It is often paired with red dates (jujube) and other herbs in tonics believed to support circulation, warmth, and vitality. Its aroma is earthy and slightly sweet, and it pairs naturally with the mellow character of rice wine.
Traditional benefits of dang gui rice wine
In TCM thinking, dang gui rice wine is valued to:
- Support healthy blood circulation and warmth
- Nourish the body after childbirth during confinement
- Offer comfort around the menstrual cycle
- Restore energy and a sense of vitality
Please note: these are traditional wellness uses, not medical claims. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or on medication, check with your doctor or a TCM practitioner first.
When and how to enjoy it
Our Dang Gui Jujube Rice Wine (当归红枣米酒) can be gently warmed and sipped in small amounts, or cooked into soups and chicken dishes. Many customers enjoy a little in the morning during confinement, or through the cooler, more tiring parts of the month.
Brewed clean, the way a tonic should be
A tonic is only as good as its ingredients. We brew our infused rice wines in Singapore with no salt, no added sugar, and no preservatives, and they are SFA licensed.
